BeSt Friend

Meet Jheng.

In the beginning I was frightened to be friends with her. She challenges your patience, tolerance, and your definition of "close" simply falls short of what she expects and give.

She is a sister to me. She is family to my family. She is simply one of the most human person I have ever met. She just does not put a cap to anything she feels. In between our friendship are hundreds of letters. A lot of memorable places where our adventurous hearts took us. Loads of hard to say words that only true friends and family shares. And lots of memories of things only children can appreciate.

She believes in who she is and no amount of ridicule and put down could dampen her spirit. A real fighter. She bares the burden of her whole family with a smile. Oh no, she is not always generous. She simply takes on every blow and hopes to survive. And she does.

I met her in a time when I was happy but less human. She came and showed me how simple life is and that what really matters is that you have looked into another person's eye and say "I know this person and she knows me". She reminded me of the Velveteen rabbit and the rose of the little prince. We have been loose in the seams and we have tamed each other. Now, we are known. In every step of the way, despite my coldness, she would pull me out in the sunshine and dare me to be happy. :) She is a child inside (outside too!) Until now, eight years has passed, still she has manages to send the same message, constantly, everyday.

No, it was not all sunny days but we managed. We do not spend a lot of time together anymore, although she spends a lot of time in our house. We don't talk as much or write letters. We both have our separate sets of friends and we don't go out often. We even have our own "other" best friends to spend time with. But the closeness, the understanding, the sisterhood just binds the two of us in the absence of words and time.

Not many people find a Jheng in their lifetime. Someone who takes the time to know you inside and out and despite all that she uncovers, still chooses to stand by your side. I guess, not many people are as lucky as I am. ;)
